What Is This Interview For?

The assimilation interview is a conversation with a prefecture agent designed to verify your integration: French language skills, knowledge of the Republic's principles, life in France, plans for the future. It is not a school exam, but a guided conversation. The tone is demanding yet respectful.

Topics Covered

Questions often touch on your personal history, your journey in France, your work, your family, but also on Republican values (laïcité, equality, liberty), institutions, French history and culture. Current events may come up. Preparing a clear summary of your trajectory is a solid starting point.

How to Prepare

Practice spoken French: express yourself clearly with a sufficient vocabulary. Review the basics of French history, the institutions (president, parliament, justice), Republican symbols, fundamental values. The 'citizen's booklet', available online, is an excellent resource. Practice out loud with simulated questions.

On the Day

Bring originals of requested documents, be punctual and presentable. Listen carefully to each question, take your time to answer. If you don't understand, ask for a rephrase. Sincerity and consistency matter as much as pure knowledge. A calm, respectful attitude works in your favor.
